Edinburgh AI & Robotics project wowing international audiences

Edinburgh research scientists have won third prize in the second heat of the Shenzhen Innovation and Entrepreneurship International Competition 2018, with their project ‘Mobile Collaborative Robots with Shared-Autonomy System’.

Edinburgh research scientists have entered the second heat of the Shenzhen Innovation and Entrepreneurship International Competition 2018.

Edinburgh based, Dr. Yiming Yang and his team of three research scientists led by Professor Sethu Vijayakumar, from the University of Edinburgh, have won third prize in the Shenzhen Innovation and Entrepreneurship International Competition 2018.

Their project, ‘Mobile Collaborative Robots with Shared-Autonomy System’, competed against over 100 teams from eight different countries including the UK, US, Germany and Japan.

The artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics project won second prize in the United Kingdom heats, against 180 rival companies in the UK and as a result, progressed to the second heat of the competition in Shenzhen. 

The ‘Mobile Collaborative Robots with Shared-Autonomy System’ project has been supported by the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Centre for Robotics, Edinburgh-Shenzhen Creative exchange and Doctorate Association.

The team will explore further opportunities for Edinburgh-Shenzhen collaboration on advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence.
