Office accommodation

Edinburgh office take-up has performed strongly over the last few years. In 2017, the city experienced record-breaking office take-up, surpassing 1.1 million sq ft for the first time since 2004. Total take-up for 2018 was 972,634 sq ft, still ahead of the 10-year average.

Average annual rents for prime office space in Edinburgh city centre cost approximately £312.00 per sqm in 2017/18. Lower rates in other peripheral areas of the city can be secured, with many firms choosing West Edinburgh to host contact centres and other back office activities.

Industrial units

Industrial parks, many of which are located on the outskirts of the city, tend to be well-connected to major roads and can help to improve logistics and make it easier to attract clients. Average annual rents for prime industrial space in Edinburgh cost approximately £86.00 per sqm in 2017/18. Again, depending on the location and specifications of the space in question, lower rates can be secured.

Retail space

A rich mix of speciality, multiple and destination retailers, all-year-round events, historic settings and ongoing public realm improvements have helped Edinburgh and the wider city region build its reputation as a retail destination. Average annual rents for prime retail space in Edinburgh cost approximately £2,580.00 per sqm in 2017/18, but these remain modest compared to similarly sized European cities.
