A close-knit creative community
Edinburgh’s cultural ecosystem is thriving, fuelled by an increasingly vital, energetic and connected creative community. One of the key drivers behind this incredible success story is Edinburgh’s unrivalled festivals line-up, which collectively supports more than 6,000 jobs. The home of the largest arts festival in the world, Edinburgh is alive with performance arts throughout the year, hosting major international tours down to smaller, more intimate city centre venues.
The city is one of Europe’s most popular film destinations. In 2017, Edinburgh hosted major location shoots for Hollywood blockbusters such as Avengers: Infinity War, as well as a variety of independent and TV productions. Location support is provided via Film Edinburgh.
A tech-focused creative sector is also home to some of the most famous console-based games developers in the world, as well as mobile gaming companies, educational gaming expertise and cloud-based games development support services. No wonder the city’s developer community grew by 8% in the second half of 2017.
Edinburgh is alive with creative spaces, and through Creative Edinburgh members have the chance to engage in a varied programme of networking events, development sessions and knowledge sharing.

We see Edinburgh as awash with the kind of talent that’s vital to driving our business forward. That’s not only down to its status as a world-beating university city, but because it’s a vibrant cultural hub that encourages innovation. Will Cavendish, Founder and Chief Technical Officer, Pufferfish
Edinburgh Shenzhen Creative Exchange – an innovative soft landing and incubation project
The cities of Edinburgh and Shenzhen established the Edinburgh Shenzhen Creative Exchange in 2014 as a gateway for creative and tech sector companies in each city to collaborate and do business together. Companies interested in exploring market opportunities in either city should get in touch with a view to joining the ESCE project to access soft landing / incubation and collaboration space in either city. Since its establishment, connections between Edinburgh and Shenzhen have grown considerably, including healthcare and educational sector connections.
