As the most prosperous UK city outside London, Edinburgh continues to attract premium retailers, enticed by year-round footfall and the fact Scotland's Capital has been named the UK’s most walkable city.

An eclectic offer with character

As well as being served by free-to-use city centre public WiFi, the city has one of the UK’s most integrated public transport networks.

From Edinburgh’s fully pedestrianised luxury quarter, Multrees Walk – home to brands such as Scotland's only Harvey Nichols, TESLA, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, and Burberry – shoppers can explore the Georgian grandeur and cosmopolitan retail offer of George Street.

The adjacent Edinburgh St James development, one of the largest urban regeneration projects in Europe, will deliver 850,000 sq. ft. of prime retail, food and leisure space in 2020. It is anticipated that the development, when complete will help launch Edinburgh up the UK retail rankings.

In addition to specialist shopping areas, such as the city's New Waverley Arches, visitors and residents alike can enjoy a broad range of restaurants and stylish bars, all part of Edinburgh’s thriving night-time economy. In fact, the city’s fine-dining scene has received more Michelin awards than any other UK city outside London.

Essential Edinburgh, in collaboration with the City of Edinburgh Council, produces a monthly e-bulletin that highlights a wide range of performance data relating to the city centre. In 2017, around 28,000 (8.4%) people worked across the capital's retail sector.

Edinburgh was the ideal location for Harvey Nichols to open its’ Scottish store. As a thriving and vibrant capital city, Edinburgh attracts exclusive luxury brands, which are sought after by both local and international customers. This is as true today as it was when Harvey Nichols, Edinburgh opened its’ doors over 15 years ago, what with the development of the city centre and the continued growth in the luxury retail market.
