Where history comes alive

Edinburgh is home to two of Scotland’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Edinburgh’s Old and New Towns combine the medieval architecture and historic closes surrounding the Royal Mile with the planned neo-classical grandeur of its Georgian New Town. Just a few miles west of the city centre lies one of the world’s greatest engineering marvels – the magnificent Forth Rail Bridge. In 2004, UNESCO named Edinburgh the world’s first City of Literature.

Edinburgh’s famed year-round festivals programme helps to attract more than 4m visitors each year, and collectively they make a huge contribution to the quality of life, international reputation and economic vitality of Edinburgh and Scotland.

Edinburgh is the number one conference destination in the UK, after London and the sector is estimated to generate around £300m a year for the city region. Event organisers from around the world continue to be inspired by the city, which offers venues with an elusive ‘wow’ factor and support through Convention Edinburgh.

The city also remains the most attractive UK hotel investment destination outside London, according to research emerging form the Deloitte’s European Hotel Investment Survey. Edinburgh offers a wide variety of top-class tourist accommodation that is designed to suit all budgets and remains one of the most attractive hotel investment destinations in the UK. Edinburgh achieves some of the highest annual hotel occupancy levels in Europe and some of the highest average daily room rates in the UK.

Edinburgh is a city on most people’s must-see list – and combined with its growing reputation as a commercial and business tourism centre – the volume of potential visitors makes it a highly-desired location for any hotel operation.
