Your business in brief?
Until recently, Rowan Dartington & Co was a regional stockbroker and discretionary fund manager based in Bristol and formed just over 25 years ago. Last year, the business was bought by St James’s Place, the UK’s largest wealth manager, and since then we have been expanding the business to become a national one.
We are expanding our business to provide discretionary fund management and stockbroking to the St James’s Place partners on a nationwide basis. Expansion into Scotland is a key part of this and our opening in Edinburgh is the first of a number of Scottish locations we are targeting.Graham Coxell, executive chairman, Rowan Dartington
The headcount has grown, and will continue to grow significantly. We currently have around 160 staff. The current management of the business became involved in 2011 and we’ve been working to establish a business that really cares about its clients and employees.
We believe at the heart of every successful business we need to provide all our staff a place of work where they feel valued, competent and heard. If we can achieve this, then this will flow through to how we approach our clients and running their money for them.
We provide multiple services to our clients from discretionary fund management through to advisory stockbroking. We currently look after just over £1.6bn of assets and have some very ambitious targets over the next few years.
What's the rationale behind your Edinburgh opening?
As part of the acquisition by St James’s Place, we are expanding our business to provide discretionary fund management and stockbroking to the St James’s Place partners on a nationwide basis. Expansion into Scotland is a key part of this and our opening in Edinburgh is the first of a number of Scottish locations we are targeting.
What jobs will be created?
Initially the business will be a small regional office with investment managers dealing with our clients’ investments. As the business expands, we will need to see how much additional administrative support is required.
What's the vision for your business in Edinburgh?
Our desire is to become a national wealth manager with a reputation for caring about our employees and clients. We want to build a business where all our staff are proud to be associated with us.
