Your business in brief?
Hutchinson Networks is based in Edinburgh, but our reach is worldwide. We started out in 2011 on a boat moored in Leith, delivering our network solutions to mostly local clients.
It’s exciting to be based in Edinburgh – a global tech hub with world class universities on our doorstep. When we develop new technologies, collaboration is vital, and we have developed a close relationship with Edinburgh Napier University and other higher education institutions.Stephen Heslop, Chief Operating Officer, Hutchinson Networks
Now we have 89 staff working across the UK, implementing long and complex services in over 80 countries across the globe. We’ve worked with clients around the world including fortune 100 clients who require global technology rollouts.
Tell us about your fundraising and what this will allow you to do?
With this funding we aim to accelerate our business growth. We’re currently working with very high-profile, worldwide clients, and these complex projects mean that we’ll have to expand both our team size and capability as well as our facilities to meet these challenges.
We’re moving into a new purpose-built office this year that will encompass a new Customer Experience Centre for our visitors to come in and experience new technologies first hand. Our managed services capability continues to grow, doubling the size of our Network Operations Centre.
How did you come to be based in Edinburgh? What makes it a good location for you?
Edinburgh has proved to be a great place to start a business. It’s got that ideal blend of a diverse talent pool mixed with excellent transport links – you get the best of both worlds.
This talent pipeline has meant that, in only a few years, we’ve transformed our business into an organisation with a worldwide remit, spanning the globe delivering next generation solutions and services to large multinationals, critical public-sector infrastructure and cloud solutions to growing companies.
It’s exciting to be based in Edinburgh – a global tech hub with world class universities on our doorstep. When we develop new technologies, collaboration is vital, and we have developed a close relationship with Edinburgh Napier University and other higher education institutions. This has also helped us source the ambitious talent we need, and we plan to do much more of this in the future.
Edinburgh is also well-positioned geographically – it’s not too large, while also being in arms-reach of all corners of the UK, meaning we can continue to stay in close contact with customers down in London or grow our footprint in England.
How many people do you employ here and in what kind of roles? What's the vision for your business?
We doubled the business in the last 12 months and headcount is expected to be over 100 by the end of June.
We don’t just offer graduates a new job, but if they work hard they can be rewarded with a career path in a growing technology company.
Our vision is to further develop products and services, including advanced technology solutions in data centres, the cloud, security and managed services. We look for a broad set of skills from employees and need a wide variety of skills to grow our capability.
We’re focused on delivering outcomes for our clients, help them compete in their chosen markets and become more efficient. We want to build long-term client partnerships where we build trust with clients by offering them fit-for-purpose recommendations that suit their unique requirements.
