Leonardo Hotels launches its new Edinburgh hotel

Published: 24 July 2017

International hotel chain Leonardo Hotels has launched its new Leonardo Royal Hotel Edinburgh on the former Premier Inn site at Morrison Link. Daniel Rodger, General Manager of Leonardo Hotels Europe, explains more…

Your business in brief?

Leonardo Hotels is the European division of Fattal Hotels Group, which was founded by David Fattal in Israel. We are one of Europe’s fastest growing hotel groups, operating hotels in the 3-4 star superior category in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, England, Scotland, Spain, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Italy.

The decision to create this hotel under the premium Leonardo Royal brand further underlines our positioning of Edinburgh – and Scotland – as a prime new location in our continued European expansion plans.

The company management for Europe is based in Berlin. Collectively, we have 14,000+ rooms and more than 25,000m² of conference spaces, but each hotel has a clear focus on individuality – with each designed to reflect the distinct regional character and flair of its location.

In our last annual results, published in March 2017, we reported sales of €305 million, meaning annual revenues rose by 12.5% compared to the previous year. Occupancy rates also remained high, enabling us to register around four million guests.

Leonardo Hotels spent more than €7m to facilitate the complete refurbishment of the former Premier Inn hotel.

How significant is this hotel for you?

The launch of the Leonardo Royal Hotel Edinburgh is particularly significant as the Edinburgh location is our first property in Scotland. It involved an investment of more than €7m to facilitate the complete refurbishment of the former Premier Inn in the capital’s Haymarket district.

The decision to create this hotel under the premium Leonardo Royal brand further underlines our positioning of Edinburgh – and Scotland – as a prime new location in our continued European expansion plans.

Indeed, our business model is never to open just one hotel in a new area and, since 2006, we have opened 63 hotels – and are already reviewing plans for further growth in Scotland.

What are the key features and facilities?

The Leonardo Royal Hotel Edinburgh brings a new destination in stylish hotel living to the capital, offering 4-star superior accommodation across its 282 renovated bedrooms.

While we are a chain hotel, we are as far removed from a chain hotel as possible, which is why each of our hotels is designed to be individual and reflect its surrounding area.

Here, guests can look forward to bedrooms with iconic panorama images of the Edinburgh skyline, bathrooms with a giant mural of sheep as well as stylish Scottish-themed furnishings, while the lobby and bar/restaurant areas offer sophisticated and boutique-style glamour. If you’re staying at our Leonardo Hotel in Edinburgh, you know for sure that you are in Edinburgh.

Leonardo Hotels, the European division of Fattal Hotels Group, is headquartered in Berlin, Germany.

Who do you hope to appeal to?

With this hotel, we are aiming to appeal to both leisure guests, given its location near to tram and train stops, as well as Edinburgh’s ever-growing corporate and business tourism market – fuelled by its proximity to the Edinburgh International Conference Centre and the under-construction Haymarket development.

It also offers more than 90 parking spaces.
