Sofant raises nearly £800K

Sofant Technologies, a spin-out from the University of Edinburgh, has secured nearly £800,000 of new investment in an over-subscribed angel funding round.

The fresh money has been provided by Kelvin Capital, Newable and Investing Women, as well as Old College Capital and Scottish Investment Bank.

It follows an injection of approximately £1.5m in EU funding secured last year. The company has created the world's smallest mobile smart antenna which it claims could double the battery life in mobile devices, while also greatly improving mobile connectivity.

This technology will be crucial, Sofant says, with the introduction of 5G mobile data being driven by increasing use of apps such as Snapchat, Instagram and Netflix. The company's patented technology was born out of a £1m space programme to develop miniaturised satellites...
