Statement office block approved

The City of Edinburgh Council planners have approved a design by Michael Laird Architects for a statement curved glass office block in Edinburgh’s Fountainbridge district.

Exchange Place 4 at Port Hamilton serves as the ‘missing link’ in a commercial crescent by infilling a gap in the BDP-led masterplan with 4,465sq/m of floor space.

Framing an inner courtyard the offices will boast a green wall brings the front façade, adding life to the anodised curtain walling featured elsewhere.

Detailing their approach the architects wrote: “The proposal will act as the missing piece and provide a balance between the height of both existing buildings as the height increases towards the Scottish Widows building. The scale and mass will also balance with the neighbouring residential properties...”
