University’s £19 million development completed

Construction on Heriot-Watt University’s £19 million GRID (Global, Research, Innovation and Discovery) development has been completed.

GRID is a multi-functional space, spread out across three levels, which will be open seven days a week.

It will also house an enterprise hub to support business innovation, promote emerging technology and inventions, and encourage staff and students to pursue the commercial potential of their creative ideas.

Now that building contractor, Bowmer & Kirkland, has reached this landmark stage in the project, the university said it can move on to the next phase.

Anyone who has been at the university in recent months can’t fail to have noticed the construction of this impressive structure...

Over the coming weeks, technology, including IT systems and a games studio, will be installed in the building ahead of its formal opening this autumn.

GRID is located in Heriot-Watt’s Edinburgh campus and the university said it offers a new approach to teaching and learning by allowing students to work on real-world problems, across disciplines to deliver practical solutions with worldwide impact...
