The major development will replace a former packaging factory.

Planning permission has been granted for "Edinburgh Gateway", a major mixed-use development in west Edinburgh led by Summix Capital.

The development, designed by 3DReid, will transform 6.3 hectares (15.6 acres) of brownfield land into 957 homes for sale and rent (35% of them affordable); a 172-bedroom hotel; commercial space; retail space; and community space, along with new public realm; an interface with Edinburgh Gateway railway station; two civic squares; and new green space.

"The granting of this planning application for Edinburgh Gateway will create one of Scotland’s most exciting and best-connected neighbourhoods, representing a significant investment in the capital. Redeveloping one of the last significant pieces of brownfield land in the city into a brand-new, sustainable mixed-use community, Edinburgh Gateway will support the tackling of the city’s well-publicised housing emergency."
